November 22, 2017 was a momentous day for the 26 out of school youth in Nairobi, Kenya who graduated from a 1-year vocational course in Food and Nutrition course (Hotel, Restaurant and Entrepreneurship) offered by Franciscan sisters in collaboration with ANCOP CANADA.
The Theme during the commencement exercises was “Perseverance in Pursuing our Dreams.” Sr. Esperanza Paraggua, Principal of SFIC, rallied the graduates to continue reaching for their dreams, be the best in the things that they do and continuously improve their craft.
Sis. Malou Clarito, CFC Fulltime Pastoral Worker and currently in Charge of Child Sponsorship in Africa was also present during the joyful event. She mentioned that it was providential that when CFC Kenya was having their 2016 planning at the hall of the Franciscan Sisters, she was able to see on the other room the activity of the Teresia Van Miert Development Center and became curious of what this program is giving to the out of school youth. The following year, ANCOP CANADA signed an Agency Agreement with the Franciscan Sisters to help reach the dreams of these children.
Two graduates are NOW employed long before they even attended their graduation day. The event ended with so much dancing to the African beat, cutting of cake and a sumptuous lunch.
Another batch will be sponsored in 2018. With your generous help, more and more children will be able to reach their dreams. (Contributor: Malou Clarito – CFC Canada)
