Last October 2016, other members from Singles for Christ and I went on a mission trip to Kenya where we met some of the most beautiful kids sponsored through the Answering the Cry of the Poor (ANCOP) Child sponsorship program.
So I was excited to attend the Loving The Poor seminar to learn more about ANCOP.
We started the day right with Mass in the morning at the beautiful parish of St. Andrew. Later on, we transferred to the hall packed with almost 200 people. It was a beautiful sight to witness the great number of people who were enthusiastic and eager to serve the poor. Throughout the day, there were short talks, but mostly group activities.
I enjoyed the activity where we wrote down our personal commitments for ANCOP. It was inspiring to see people who wrote down their goals as an individual or a group to help the poor.
It was especially beautiful when everyone held hands in their group and sang If We Hold On Together.’ It was a nice gesture to show how much each one in that room was willing to work with one another for our brothers and sisters who are in need.
It’s truly amazing to know that there a lot of people who recognize poverty in the world and put love into action by helping those who are in need. The experience definitely affirmed me that it’s going to be a fruitful year for ANCOP. May we continue to serve our brothers and sisters who are in need out of love.
“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for our sake He became poor, so that by His poverty you might become rich.” – 2 Corinthians 8:9
