Frequently Asked Questions
Child Sponsorship Program
A $38.00/month or $456.00/year donation will support a poor child in elementary or high school, while a donation of $76/month or $912/year will send a deserving scholar to college or vocational school.
The benefits received by the scholars may vary, depending on the educational level, the country/area and the institution. Normally your donation will provide for your scholar’s school tuition, uniform and shoes, books, and school supplies. It will also provide for the child’s annual medical/dental check-up, values and spiritual formation, as well as for field trips and other school-related activities.
Yes, profiles of the children available for sponsorship are posted on the ANCOP Canada website. If you prefer, ANCOP Canada may also recommend a child for you to sponsor.
We encourage a regular exchange of letters between you and your scholar. As we do not give out donor’s contact information, the ANCOP office will facilitate this exchange. You may be able to regularly send messages (with attachments) to your scholar by using the My ANCOP Account messaging facility.
You may also mail to us your letter and this will be electronically forwarded to our ANCOP site coordinator who will hand it to your scholar. Likewise, ANCOP Canada sends out via email the updates(Annual Progress Reports, Repot Cards), letters(Thank You, Christmas Cards) or messages coming from your scholar. For those who prefer postal mails, ANCOP Canada will send it to you by post. We also recommend sending electronic cards during birthdays and holidays.
You will need to inform us at least 1 month prior to your planned visit so that we can inform our ANCOP site coordinator to arrange and confirm the meeting. In your visit, you will be able to talk to your scholar, exchange stories, share a meal, and meet his or her family. For your scholar, it would mean a lot. Meeting you would put flesh on your act of generosity and caring. A reminder though that ANCOP Canada discourages direct communication between the donor and the scholar. This is for the protection of both parties.
Aside from your scholar’s letters, you will receive from ANCOP Canada an Annual Progress Report (APR) with the child’s latest photo as well as updates on his or her school activities and other involvement.
ANCOP envisions graduating the scholars all the way to college. However, a child sponsorship may be discontinued for the following reasons:
- Non-compliance to the scholarship program requirements
- Transfer of the family to another location not covered by ANCOP’s operation
- Refusal of the child and/or his or her family to participate in required activities of the Child Sponsorship Program
- Excessive absences from school, and/or dropping out from school
On a positive note, a scholar may voluntarily leave the program in the event that his or her family’s financial status may have improved.
In all cases and if termination is unavoidable, we will send you a letter about the termination of your scholar from the program. Likewise, we will provide you with the profile and photo of your new scholar.
If you decide to discontinue your sponsorship for unavoidable reasons, you will need to inform us at sponsor@ancopcanada.org at least one month before the date of effectivity. This is important so that we will be able to find another sponsor to assume sponsorship of the scholar and avoid disrupting his or her studies.
You may log-in to your My ANCOP Account to update your personal profile or mode of donation. You may also call the ANCOP Canada office directly.
As a regulated Canadian charity organization, ANCOP Canada is bound by the rules and requirements of the Canadian Revenue Agency(CRA). The audited ANCOP Canada Financial Reports are found inside the CRA website.
As a general rule, ANCOP Canada strives to deliver at least 75% of the allocated funds to its scholars and beneficiaries. Updated financial reports may also be seen inside the ANCOP Canada website.
