Last April 7, 2018, during the ANCOP Walk Gala in celebration of the 15th staging of the annual summer fundraising, a group of young adults were not just witnesses but became part of the movement to make a difference in the lives of poor families in Africa, India and Asia.
Through the introduction of Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) and some TCDSB past participants of the annual Service Program in the Philippines, the Filipino McMaster Student Association, (FMSA) composed of students at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, were inspired to kick start their fund raising for ANCOP Canada with an initial fund of $ 750.00.
“We started raising funds at the beginning of our school year in September since this was the charity we decided to sponsor this year”, Doris Adao, FMSA co-President mentioned in an email.
“We learned about ANCOP through TCDSB, especially since some of our friends were involved in the Philippines service trip, and we were inspired by their contributions.”
Together with co-President Ren David Dimen, Charlemagne Lee-Dumasal and Lourdes Teodoro, Doris Adao presented their donation to Ricky Cuenca, ANCOP Canada President.
The Filipino McMaster Student Association, (FMSA) are students from the university promoting social and cultural aspects of the Filipino community. Established to unite Filipino students as well as other interested groups at McMaster University, their main goal is to inform, educate and promote the Filipino culture as well as create a sense of community for many Filipino students attending McMaster.
Through partnerships like these, ANCOP Canada hopes to create a world of altruistic and passionate advocates for the poor. The work will be in good hands with the many vibrant and dynamic partners like CFC Singles for Christ and CFC Youth for Christ, the Holy Cross SS of Vancouver, TCDSB of Toronto, and most recently the Filipino McMaster Student Association.
The new generation of philanthropists are here and strong!
