Enthusiasm built up weeks before the day of the walk. For the first time, Lloydminster was set to have their ANCOP Walk on Saturday at 1 pm, August 11, 2018 at Bud Miller All Seasons Park.
The day came. The air was filled with smoke from BC forest fires. It was cold with temperature at 11 degrees. It was windy and cloudy. An hour before the start of walk, it rained and there was only a handful of walkers around. None of these could dampen the spirit of ANCOP team from Edmonton who drove two and a half hours to support and witness this much anticipated event.
Towards the start of the walk, the CFC Edmonton music ministry blasted with bouncy hymns of praises. Then the sun slowly crept in and the skies started to brighten up. Walkers steadily arrived. One bronze sponsor came to hand in his cheque and was delighted to wear the ANCOP t-shirt together with his daughter. Two priests from St. Anthony Catholic Parish–Fr. Antony Michael and Fr. Christopher Selvaraj graced the event.
Bro Greg Parillas opened the event by welcoming and thanking all who braved the weather. Fr.Antony said the opening prayers and blessed all with holy water.
Fifteen balloons representing ANCOP’s 15 years were set to let go. Together with the ANCOP team, Fr. Antony and Fr. Christopher held the balloons and released them to mark the start of the walk.
Walkers led by the CFC Youth walked joyfully carrying ANCOP banner and inspiring slogans.
Though the expected number of walkers was below the target, there was evident of energy and optimism in the Lloydminster ANCOP leadership of Bro. Jesse and Sis. Evelyn Leodones to fire up the community in future walks. There is definitely a huge potential for robust growth. The walk ended on a high note with the announcement that the funds raised met the target by 106%.
Truly, God works in mysterious ways!
