Loving the Poor Retreat Seminar 2018 : GTA

Last Saturday, March 24, at the Thornhill Community Centre, 250 CFC leaders and its Family Ministries were on hand to attend the Loving the Poor seminar.  It was a great start to their Holy Week.  In a retreat-like seminar, with talks and sharing, the CFC community was reinvigorated and re-energized to fully grasp the work for the poor through ANCOP.

The day started promptly at 8:30 am with a Holy mass and an exhortation from Fr. Jublas “Joe” Nolasco.  Fr. Jublas, is a partner on the ground through his Pangandoy sa Eskuwela Foundation in San Jose, Negros.  This foundation is supported by ANCOP Canada through its CSP, with 100 scholars.

Bro Reuel Robrigado, CFC Area Head for Greater Toronto Area, followed by Bro Ricky Cuenca, ANCOP President, were able to set the mood right and allowed for the right perspective in caring for the poor. An Ignatian retreat, led by Peachy Forbes, allowed for the Holy Spirit to work in all the participants to understand their gift and the work that the Lord wants them to do for the poor.  This is aligned to the CFC theme for the year, “Rekindle the Gift and fulfill your Mission”.

The afternoon was set for workshops and best practices on how to do the work with a Digital Marketing discussion, an actual live demo and followed by an actual donation using the new platform for Child Sponsorship – all in a matter of minutes!

Another exciting development was the launch of TEXT To GIVE.  Close to a dozen new donations ranging from $ 1 to $50 were received through an innovative way of donating through TEXT MESSAGING! A full rollout of this will be done to the rest of the 18 other areas in Canada where ANCOP operates.

The rest of the afternoon was spent on planning activities that will produce the needed results allowing this work to prosper for the rest of the year. “ANCOP is not just the ANCOP Walk in August, but needs to be a lifestyle!” – as one of the speakers reiterated.

As a great segue, the 15th ANCOP Walk was launched by Bro Tony Cuvin, Area Leader for ANCOP GTA, and registration is now open using ANCOP WALK Fundraising Site both online and using any smartphone.

It was a great day for everyone – the giver and of course the recipient.  May God bless all of our work for the poor!

Our biggest contingent, the Handmaids of the Lord, were almost a 100 strong. Here, showing together with some CFC leaders, including ANCOP Area Coordinator, Edna Cuvin and other HOLD members. Photo courtesy of Sis Esther Lacerna.
