In the local language, “masagana” is the tagalog translation for “prosperous”. People greet each other “Masaganang Bagong Taon” or a “Prosperous New Year” to all. Maybe it was coincidental that Day 2 will be spent in an ANCOP Village in Masagana close to the coming new year, the site of Philippine Service Team build in 2015-16.
This day was an opportunity to reconnect with familiar residents and families from the ANCOP Village.
After checking into the hotel the delegation hopped on the bus to travel to the ANCOP village. It was an opportunity to bond with the beneficiaries through the unofficial national sport and pastime of Filipinos – Basketball. It was time for a Philippines vs Canada basketball game.
Mike Consul, head of the delegation recounts day 2 from the Catholic Leadership blog:
After playing basketball, we got to know the younger kids, showed them our dance, played some games, and gave them all gifts that we brought from Toronto.
After playing with the kids, we broke out into a dance party! Before leaving we had dinner prepared by the community before boarding the bus to go back to the hotel.
It was definitely a memorable first day in the Philippines!
Tomorrow we are going to two villages, the ANCOP OLB community in San Mateo and the 2012 build site AVANAI.
