Vancouver’s 2023 ANCOP Spring Relay Run Breaks Records!

Now in its 12th year, ANCOP Vancouver’s annual Spring Relay Run was held on April 15, 2023. Due to the increase of participants, the venue was held at the brand-new North Delta track and field which featured bright coloured lanes and covered bleachers.

This year, the goal was to fund the construction of a multipurpose hall at the ANCOP Aytona Village in Sorsogon. This hall will be used for masses, assemblies, seminars, sports and social events. Their current hall does not have any walls and so when it rains, beneficiaries are pushed to hold their events elsewhere.

From Vancouver to Chilliwack, more than 700 members across the Couples for Christ community and its ministries participated. This event, headed by ANCOP Coordinator Sherwin Ruiz, was a great time to bond and a fun way to show sportsmanship and cre ative skills. In attendance, was our very own ANCOP President Gabby Consulta.  He and many Vancouverites witnessed a banner parade, a cheering competition, many food booths, and of course the relay run.

Our creative members that participated in the banner contest used recycled materials to artistically show this year’s CFC theme “Rise, Pick Up Your Mat, and Go!”. The banner parade, led by the vibrant Aklanon Band, showcased their talents as marchers paraded in their theme colors. The cheering contest was composed of singing and dancing along to the theme. It was an entertaining spectacle filled with costumes and cheers from kids to seniors!  The food booths featured enticing food such as arroz caldo, tapsilog, longsilog, dinuguan, lumpia, siomai, puto, and many more. It was like going to a fiesta! Lastly, the very thrilling relay run was held! Where else can you see teams composed of kids, teens, and adults compete? The overall winner of the ANCOP Spring Relay Run Cup was Greater Vancouver South (GVS) A3 St Joseph, Richmond Chapter!

The goal of raising funds for the multi-purpose hall at the Sorsogon Aytona village was reached with approximately $91,500 funds raised during the event. Congratulations to the winners and supporters for breaking past records and having a fun-filled family day! The ANCOP Spring Relay Run will continue to be an integral part of CFC Greater Vancouver as it lives its commitment to helping our beneficiaries while enjoying friendly competition for God’s glory!
